Welcome to the Dr. Khan Social Impact Lab. I am delighted to share our work with students, early-career scholars, global researchers, and collaborators who are committed to advancing knowledge and creating meaningful social impact. Our lab is driven by the belief that rigorous research, critical inquiry, and community engagement can meaningfully contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society. Grounded in Freirean critical pedagogy, my core teaching and learning philosophy, we view research and training as dialogic, collaborative, transformative, and emancipatory processes. This philosophy guides us to question dominant narratives, co-produce knowledge with communities through a transdisciplinary/interdisciplinary approach, and cultivate reflexive, empowered learners and researchers who can challenge structural inequalities and imagine more just futures.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to understanding how people navigate rapidly changing socio-economic conditions, particularly in (precarious) labor markets, digital and platform-based work, occupational health, adult learning and pedagogy, health promotion, and wider socio-behavioral transformations. We explore these issues through qualitative, mixed-methods, and participatory research approaches that focus on the lived experiences of individuals, communities, and marginalized or equity-deserving groups.
