The ending seminar of a research project
The project ending seminar of a research project under Dr. Khan Social Impact Lab was held on 23 June 2026. It was funded by the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy (BCSAA), Shahbagh, Dhaka. The study explored the role of the gig labour market in reducing unemployment in Bangladesh. The findings show that gig work has become an important source of employment and income for many people, especially those facing unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to formal jobs. At the same time, the study identified major challenges, including unstable earnings, platform control, high commissions, health and safety risks, mental stress, harassment, and the absence of formal labour protections. Overall, the study highlights that while the gig work creates employment opportunities, its long-term sustainability requires stronger labour rights, social protection, and policy support for workers. It was presented by Dr. Tauhid Khan and Mutasim Billah.
